tax helpVolunteers will do your basic income tax return for free if your make less than $64,000. They’ll let you know if you qualify for any special tax credits such as Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and Credit for the Elderly or the Disabled.

In 2016, volunteers helped 149 percent more tax payers than the year before.  The program is growing in Horry County because of its volunteer director and the many who help her.

Those who chose to do their own taxes online for free through www.UnitedWay.org/myfreetaxes got an average return of $2,074.95.  In Horry County last year, 165 people used the service.

SC Thrive is also providing volunteers to help with free tax preparation. If you make less than $65,000 a year or less than $95,000 a year jointly, SC Thrive can help you file for FREE. Below are the locations:
