United Way of Horry County partnered with United Community Bank this year on our May Day Bag program. Mobile Meals of the Grand Strand and Horry County Council on Aging delivered 1,000 May Day Bags to Horry County homebound seniors. These bags were filled with useful and necessary hygiene items. United Way of Horry County staff and select volunteers filled the bags with toiletries, small gifts, etc. to brighten a senior’s day. The bags also included a letter from a local kindergartner as their way of paying it forward from United Way and CCU’s Caring for Kindergarteners program.
Individuals from our community made monetary donations towards this year’s program. To fill one bag, we asked individuals to donate $26. $26 was used to purchase the following items:
- Soap/Body Wash
- First Aid Kit
- Special Gift Items (Socks, Crossword Puzzle, Night Light)
- Cloth Face Mask
- Hand Sanitizer
