Conway, SC (November 11, 2024) – United Way of Horry County’s (UWHC) Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program to provide free tax preparation and electronic filing services to Horry County residents will begin on January 25, 2025. This year, there will be four sites for free tax preparation in Conway, Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, and Surfside Beach.
This program provides free tax preparation and electronic filing services to Horry County residents who earned $60,000 or less in 2023, are disabled, or have limited English speaking skills. During the 2024 tax season, Horry County VITA volunteers helped over 1000 individuals file their taxes.
UWHC will continue to work with United Way of Greenville County to optimize the VITA programs in their respective counties. Volunteer trainings will be held Thursday, January 9 – Saturday, January 11.
Volunteer positions available are Greeters, Screeners, and Tax Preparers. Certified volunteers will staff the VITA sites to assist residents with program eligibility and determine if filers qualify for tax credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child and Dependent Care Credit. Tentative VITA site locations, dates, and times for the 2024 tax season:
Conway: Every Saturday from 1/25/2025-4/5/2025 from 10 am – 2 pm
Myrtle Beach: Every Wednesday from 1/28/2025-4/1/2025 from 12:30 – 5 pm
North Myrtle Beach: Every Friday from 1/31/2025-4/4/2025 from 1 pm – 5 pm.
Surfside Beach: Every Monday from 1/27/2025-4/7/2025 from 10 am – 2 pm
