We welcome every family, friend, neighbor, peer, and workplace to join us.
United Way of Horry County can connect you with one-time opportunities and events that help our community as well as ongoing and regularly scheduled opportunities that support long-lasting change.
Each of our volunteer events is an opportunity to build stronger ties to the community. We welcome every family, friend, neighbor, peer, and workplace to join us. We have an event for every interest.
Whether it is for an hour, a day, once a week, or once a month, you can create a tremendous impact on another person’s life.
Join us for one of the following programs: Day of Caring, United to Read, United to Learn, May Day Bags, or VITA.

United to Learn
Start Week of: TBD
A tutoring and mentoring program coordinated with Horry County Schools. Meeting once a week during school hours.
Horry County School District and United Way of Horry County have partnered together to coordinate a program that gives students in need, one-on-one attention to advance their progress in a subject where they’re falling behind. This could be reading, math, behavior, etc.
Volunteers will be matched with a student and will meet once a week during school hours. A weekly, 30-45 minute time will be coordinated through the school’s instructional coach. We hope over time the student and mentor develop a positive and progressive relationship. This session volunteers will serve Daisy, Lakewood, Loris and Socastee Elementary.
For more information, contact Katie Dwulet or call 843-347-5195.
If you participated as a volunteer in the Fall or Spring Session, please register for your school again so we know you would like to continue as a volunteer.
If you haven’t volunteered with United to Read or United to Learn before you will need to complete your background check through Horry County Schools.
May Day Bags
May 2020 – Postponed
United Way of Horry County is partnering with United Community Bank this year on our May Day Bag program. Mobile Meals of the Grand Strand and Horry County Council on Aging will be delivering 1,000 May Day Bags to Horry County senior shut-ins. These bags will be filled with useful and necessary hygiene items. Volunteers and citizens of Horry County will have the opportunity to fill the bags with toiletries, small gifts, etc. to brighten a senior’s day. The bags will also include a letter from a local kindergartner as their way of paying it forward from United Way and CCU’s Caring for Kindergartners program.
You can help by picking up a bag at any Chamber of Commerce in Horry County (Conway, Little River, Loris, Myrtle Beach, and North Myrtle Beach) and fill it with the following items:
Toothbrush,Toothpaste, Soap/Body Wash, Deodorant, Shampoo, Tissue, Lotion/Powder, Stationery & Pens, First Aid Kit & a special gift item (i.e. socks, crossword puzzles, night light), plus anything else you feel is appropriate. All items must be new and sealed.
Here is how you and/or your company can participate:

You may also drop off donated items, if you prefer, without a bag, at the same locations.
