Board of Directors

United Way of Horry County’s Board of Directors plays a critical role in setting the organization’s strategic direction and provide strict oversight of all of the organization’s operations. The Board is comprised of local residents of Horry County from a diverse background who are committed to fulfill UWHC mission and vision.

2025 Board Chair – Joe Heyd

Joe was born and raised along the Grand Strand of South Carolina. He received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Southern Wesleyan University and his Master of Professional Accountancy from Clemson University. Joe has a diversified background with experience in public accounting at Smith Sapp, P.A., financial analysis from CenturyLink, and non-profit accounting with Ability Beyond Barriers. Joe is the Principal and Owner of Heyd & Company LLC, an accounting and advisory firm in Myrtle Beach, SC. He is both a licensed Certified Public Accountant and a licensed Real Estate Broker.

Joe has served in various capacities in the Myrtle Beach area. Previously, he served as Chairman of the Grand Strand Chapter of the South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants. He currently serves as the United Way of Horry County Chairman and the Committee Chair of Grand Strand Young Life. Joe is also a serving South Carolina Army National Guard member, holding the rank of Sergeant First Class at the 117th Engineer Brigade.

Joe enjoys spending time with his wife on the beautiful shores of Myrtle Beach surfing, fishing, or generally relaxing.  Otherwise, you’ll find him cheering on his beloved Clemson Tigers in their many victorious athletic endeavors.
