Disaster Relief Efforts
United Way of Horry County has been on the front lines helping our community during disasters since our inception in 1973. We use our vast network of partners to work to provide immediate and long-term recovery to support our community. Whether it’s by providing the most up-to-date information through our 211 Help Line or applying for funding on behalf of our community to aid in disaster relief, UWHC will be there.
Recently, UWHC was integral in obtaining funding to help with assistance for individuals and community agencies. After Hurricane Florence, UWHC was awarded and distributed over $245,000 in grants throughout Horry County to assist in-home repairs, immediate shelter & food needs, and other emergency needs.
Throughout the onset of COVID-19, UWHC has been granted $237,000 in relief funding. It was used to assist individuals affected by the pandemic and UWHC has also partnered with Lowcountry Food Bank, Horry County Schools, and Impact Ministries to either fund or supply volunteers for 27 mass food distributions benefiting over 20,000 Horry County families.
UWHC is an active member of Waccamaw VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster) which is comprised of nonprofit, nonpartisan volunteer agencies, and organizations that come together to assist residents impacted by a disaster.
