Breaking Barriers for Mental Health
Horry County has awarded UWHC U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant COVID-19 (CDBG-CV) funds in the amount of $602,610 for the program, “Breaking Barriers for Mental Health.”
The UWHC Breaking Barriers program will fulfill a great need in Horry County for professional mental health and addiction services specifically designed for the population that has the least access to these services. UWHC will partner with The Center for Counseling and Wellness to provide consistent on-site, out-patient mental health and substance use disorder counseling services to the homeless, uninsured, underinsured, low to moderate-income, and rural population of Horry County at eleven locations throughout Horry County.
The locations for counseling services will be provided to clients of the following organizations, Friendship Medical Clinic, New Directions Men’s Shelter, Women’s Shelter, and Family Shelter, Sea Haven for Youth (2 locations), North Strand Housing Shelter, A Father’s Place, Sanctuary Recovery in Aynor, and The Center for Counseling and Wellness offices in Loris and North Myrtle Beach. Counseling services will also be offered via telehealth. The funds will be used over a two-year time frame.
