United to Read is an annual event held in first-grade classrooms in Horry County to raise awareness of the importance of early literacy and celebrate reading. In the past, we have recruited over 150 volunteers each year to read the same book to each class.
For the 2024-2025 school year, volunteers will be reading Not A Box by Antoinette Portis. Not A Box is a delightful story that sparks children’s imagination as they explore the endless possibilities of what a simple box can become. It encourages creativity and shows that with a little imagination, the ordinary can become extraordinary. It’s the perfect story to inspire young minds and engage them in a meaningful discussion.
We would love for you to join us as a volunteer reader to share this special moment with the students. Your participation will help promote literacy and foster a love for reading in our community’s youngest learners.
Thank you to our event sponsor, A&I Fire & Water Restoration!
