United to Read

United to Read
November 7, 2023 | 8:30 – 9:30 am

United to Read is an annual event held in first-grade classrooms in Horry County. In the past, we have recruited over 150 volunteers each year to read the same book to each class.

For the 2023-2024 school year, volunteers will be reading The Cool Bean by Jory John and Pete Oswald. This fun and entertaining children’s book emphasizes positive messages about compassion, empathy, and friendship.

Every first-grade classroom in Horry County will have a volunteer to read to their class. United to Read is an event that raises awareness of the importance of early literacy and celebrates reading!

Thank you to our event sponsor, A&I Fire and Water Restoration!

Registration for the 2023 United to Read is available on a first-come, first-served basis until all spots are filled. If you would like to request a specific classroom, please email uwayadmin@unitedwayhorry.org with your request after completing the online form.

Please know we are unable to guarantee you will be placed at the school of your choice.

In addition to completing registration with UWHC, all volunteers MUST go through a background check with Horry County Schools. If you have not recently completed this form, please visit the HCS webpage and select Volunteer Application. Under additional details, for the school location, please select United Way of HC. This form can be completed by clicking here.

For questions, please contact Richard Williams at Richard@unitedwayhorry.org or 843.347.1179.
