United Way of Horry County’s (UWHC) Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program to provide free tax preparation and electronic filing services to Horry County residents will begin on January 25, 2023. This year there will be three sites for free tax preparation in Conway, Myrtle Beach, and Surfside Beach. A fourth location could be opened again with volunteer support in North Myrtle Beach.
This program provides free tax preparation and electronic filing services to Horry County residents who earned $58,000 or less in 2022, are disabled, or have limited English speaking skills. During the 2021 tax season, Horry County VITA volunteers helped over 800 individuals file their taxes.
UWHC has joined United Way of Greenville County and United Way of Florence County to optimize the VITA programs in their respective counties. Ongoing training will be held via Zoom for volunteers to receive IRS tax certification. Volunteer positions available are Greeters, Screeners, and Tax Preparers. Certified volunteers will staff the VITA sites to assist residents with program eligibility and determine if filers qualify for tax credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child and Dependent Care Credit. Conway: Every Saturday from 1/28/23 – 4/8/23 from 10 am – 2 pm
Myrtle Beach: Every Tuesday from 1/24/2023 – 4/4/2023 from 1 pm – 5 pm
Surfside Beach: Every Monday from 1/30/22 – 4/10/22 from 10 am – 2 pm;
Friday, February 17 & Friday, March 10, from 10 am – 2 pm
