Conway, SC (January 13, 2025) United Way of Horry County (UWHC) is pleased to announce the appointment of three new board members who bring a breadth of experience and insight to the organization. United Way of Horry County welcomes this new group to service, thanks continuing board members, and honor those who are departing after years of outstanding service.

“United Way of Horry County is run by a Board of Directors made up of local residents who are committed to building a stronger community,” said Blakely Roof, President & CEO of UWHC. “Each one plays a role in bringing a different perspective and area of expertise to our work. We are excited to welcome three new Directors to join our vision of an equitable community where every member reaches their full potential.”
Stephanie Burgess has been a dedicated member of the Santee Cooper team since 2001, serving in various roles. She is currently the Senior Manager of Retail Services and Customer Experience. Originally from Iowa, she grew up in Conway, SC and holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and a Master of Business Administration from Coastal Carolina University. She is part of Myrtle Beach Chicora Rotary Club and a Leadership Grand Strand Class XXXII graduate.
Dr. Daphne Holland, Associate Provost for Student Success, earned her PhD from Clemson University in Educational Leadership with a specialization in Higher Education Administration and Master of Arts in English Education from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. She has over 25 years’ experience in higher education as both faculty and staff and has held significant leadership and administrative roles. Since she began her role at Coastal Carolina University in 2016, she created the Coastal Student Success Center. She also played a significant role in the development of CCU’s university-wide academic recovery program and was awarded the 2021 CSRDE Best Practices in Student Retention award for co-authoring the paper, A Case Study for the Successful Development and Assessment of a University-Wide Academic Recovery Program for First-Year Students.
Josh Kay serves as the Director for Mashburn Construction and previously served as the CEO for the Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Corporation, Director of Economic Development for Santee Cooper, and City Manager for the Cities of Clinton, SC and Washington, NC. Josh currently serves on the Board of the Conway Chamber of Commerce and the VP for Government Relations and Economic Development, is a member of the South Carolina Economic Developers Association and the Horry Georgetown Technical College Construction Management Advisory Board and is a past Elder and current Deacon at First Presbyterian Church Myrtle Beach. Josh holds a Bachelor’s of Science from Presbyterian College and a Master of Public Administration from the University of South Carolina.
